Who controls the Foundation?

The Foundation has ten members that collectively elect the board of directors to manage the operation of the Foundation. Elections are held on an annual basis and director terms are generally for three years.

Who controls the OpenSSL Mission?

The Foundation and the Corporation both operate under the OpenSSL Mission and are responsible for any updates or changes to the Mission.

How can I contribute to the Foundation?

You can contribute to the Foundation in several ways:
Donations - make a financial donation to support the Foundation’s activities.
Contributions - contribute code, documentation, or other resources to the OpenSSL Library.
Volunteering - offer your time and skills to help with the Foundation activities

How can I donate to the Foundation?

We accept any kind of donation, including one-time donations or recurring donations. Please contact us at foundation@openssl.org to receive more information.

What does co-equal mean?

Having the same rank or importance; implied cooperative status; both organizations are equally able to make decisions and operate independently; no requirement to have an agreement before acting; neither organization is superior or subordinate to the other

How is the Foundation funded?

The Foundation is funded through a combination of donations, sponsorships, grants and other fundraising activities.

How are funds used by the Foundation?

The funds are used to support and develop the Project, maintain the infrastructure, organize various community activities and events, and provide resources to contributors.

How does the Foundation support the OpenSSL Library or any other project which is interested in the engagement with the Foundation?

Support from the Foundation is available for all projects under the OpenSSL Mission on an opt-in (voluntary) basis. The Foundation facilitates collaboration and communication with the communities.

How do I stay informed about the Foundation activities?

Regularly visiting the Foundation’s website for updates and announcements (Blog) and following the OpenSSL Foundation on our LinkedIn profile.

Are there any events organized by the Foundation?

What is the role of the Business Advisory Committee and Technical Advisory Committee?

The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) is an advisory group that provides strategic advice, guidance, and insights on business-related approaches. Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is an advisory group that provides strategic advice on technical issues, challenges and technical guidance to a project. Both groups are formed with the Foundation. The Corporation also has its own BAC and TAC.

How can I get involved in the advisory committees?

Membership in the BAC and TAC involves a nomination and election process. We encourage any community member to stand for one of the advisory committees to represent the views and needs of the community you are part of. How does the Foundation ensure the transparency of their activities?

Open communication channels with the communities, inclusive decision making processes that involve community inputs.
