OpenSSL is hiring for a Fundraiser to join our team

We are seeking a Fundraiser to join our team. As a Fundraiser at OpenSSL, you will play a vital role in sustaining critical components of internet infrastructure that enable secure communications around the world. In addition to your fundraising role, you must align with and uphold our core values and mission in your every day professional activities. This role will require you to have strong networks and relationships with our various sponsors, customers and communities in order to help us identify and bring on board new sponsors for our project as well as maintain our existing ones. You will also hold significant responsibility for developing our sponsorship and fundraising program in order to ensure that our sponsors are getting good value from their engagement with us whilst at the same time maximizing the resources available to OpenSSL to further develop and expand.

This position is remote. Due to the global nature of the project, we require flexibility in accommodating various time zones outside of conventional business hours. You will be expected to travel globally (including US, Australia and Europe/UK) to meet colleagues, sponsors and stakeholders, as well as to attend conferences and other similar events as the need arises.

The OpenSSL Project is run by two sister organizations: the OpenSSL Foundation and the OpenSSL Corporation that focus on our non-commercial and commercial communities respectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working as an employee of the OpenSSL Foundation, raise funds to support the OpenSSL mission
  • Define and implement a new OpenSSL sponsorship program
  • Sign up new sponsors to the OpenSSL sponsorship program
  • Identify, meet and build relationships with prospective sponsors
  • Regularly meet and build relationships with our existing sponsors
  • Work closely with the OpenSSL Foundation leadership and our sister organization the OpenSSL Corporation to identify new fundraising opportunities and leads
  • Attend conferences and other similar industry events in order to further identify and build relationships with prospective sponsors
  • Become a conduit for feeding back the needs, interests and concerns of our sponsors to the OpenSSL leadership team
  • Working with the technical teams maintain a strong awareness and understanding of the key current and forthcoming features of OpenSSL projects in order to better facilitate communications with stakeholders

Requirements

  • Experience working in a Sales, Fundraising and/or Business Relationship Management role in the IT sector
  • Proven track record in building strong customer or sponsor relationships
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver on defined fundraising targets
  • Strong communications skills including the ability to interact with senior business leaders amongst our sponsors and stakeholders as well as with highly technical staff
  • Ability to communicate well in English

Preferred

  • Background working with open-source software projects (strongly preferred)
  • Background in or understanding of security and privacy technologies
  • Experience of developing or delivering a sponsorship fundraising program
