If you’re reading this blog post, you probably don’t need us to tell you how essential, widespread, and important the OpenSSL Library is. While our open source model means that everyone is freely able to use these tools, it also means we here at the OpenSSL Foundation don’t actually know all the great stories of how these tools are being used.

We’re looking for real stories of how the OpenSSL Library benefits your end users.

Does your work involve the Internet of Things? Do you know that the OpenSSL Library is used on Some Cool Brand’s smart thermostat or Some Amazing Carmaker’s navigation system?

Are you at a bank or other financial institution and aware that the customer portal is utilizing the OpenSSL Library to ensure the security of customers’ banking information?

Do you work in a medical organization? Is the OpenSSL Library used on the back-end of your records management system, protecting sensitive patient data?

We know that the OpenSSL Library is ubiquitous. Almost every person connected to the internet today is using OpenSSL, whether it’s in their operating system, an application within it, a smart device, or a site they are accessing online. Yet, outside of the tech sector, very few people realize that they are benefiting from this critical open source software.

As we work to grow awareness of, and funding for, the OpenSSL Foundation, we aspire to grow a collection of vivid, real-life stories so that more people can appreciate this hidden, but vital, technology. You can help us make OpenSSL’s impact on the world more visible by sharing a story.
