Introducing Daniel Kubec

The OpenSSL Foundation welcomes Daniel Kubec as the newest member of our team. As Senior Software Engineer, Daniel will help the Foundation continue to deliver on its mission of providing security and privacy tools to everyone, everywhere.

Daniel has worked as a contractor for over twenty years, bringing expertise in operating systems, high-throughput networks, protocols, cryptography, and security-related domains. He has a record of projects at several successful cybersecurity startups and corporations, particularly in the telecommunications sector, along with contributions to open-source security.

Daniel’s past OpenSSL experience includes adding support for TLS Keying Material Exporters to OpenVPN, leveraging the OpenSSL [RFC-5705] implementation and outlining compelling reasons for their adoption. That initiative centered on strong mutual TLS side-channel authentication with straightforward bindings of AAA information to the application layer through well-defined mechanisms.

In the commercial field, Daniel has contributed across a wide range of TLS-related areas, including:

  • strong mutual TLS authentication based on various topologies
  • vulnerability and compliance measurements for the SecurityScorecard, the global leader in cybersecurity ratings and the only service continuously rating millions companies and institutions,
  • work at Anritsu Corporation on high-throughput telecommunications networks, and
  • work at Invasys a.s. on proof-of-concept implementation and prototypes. The company specializes in providing governments with security technology aimed at preventing terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime.

As Daniel begins this new role, he shared, “I’m excited to contribute to OpenSSL, a project with unparalleled global impact on cryptographic algorithms and secure transport protocols. It’s embedded in nearly every operating system and underpins the entire global network, reaching all the way to the application layer, making it virtually impossible not to use.”

One of Daniel’s first projects at the OpenSSL Foundation will be working on our Github issue backlog, a priority initiative that is being made possible through an investment from Sovereign Tech Fund. Join us in welcoming Daniel to the team! He can be reached at kubec@openssl.org.
