The OpenSSL Foundation is pleased to share that Tomáš Mráz, our Public Support and Security Manager, represented the Foundation at GitHub Universe 2025, GitHub’s annual flagship conference dedicated to innovation, open source collaboration, and the future of software development.

Held in San Francisco, GitHub Universe 2025 brought together developers, security professionals, and open-source leaders from around the world to explore cutting-edge advancements in secure software practices, AI-assisted development and project management, and the evolving landscape of open collaboration.

Agentic AI and its use with helping software development was the main topic of the whole conference. Using the AI to directly implement new functionality for the OpenSSL Library is not yet possible due to the high complexity of the task. However AI can help us with more mundane tasks as issue triage, developing tests and writing documentation.

There were also interesting presentations on how AI can help with project management or organizing the task backlog, how CodeQL scanning can identify unsafe or risky coding patterns in C language, and how CodeQL can be used to improve security of GitHub Action recipes.

Tomáš reflected, “I was very happy to have conversations with many developers using GitHub, share the patterns of how we use GitHub and learn their GitHub experiences.

I thank the organizers of GitHub Universe for providing such a great environment for collaboration and innovation. I look forward to bringing the insights learned at the event into our work on open-source cryptographical and security software.”
